Hi, I'm Roger Sherack. I started Skycam Australia in July 1985 when I was asked to organise some aerial photography of an engineering project by the company I was working for at the time as a survey draftsman. Having learned to fly on De Havilland Chipmunks at Bankstown airport in the 60's and an interest in photography resulting in my first aerial photograph taken in 1964, it came as no surprise to find myself suddenly immersed in a new and exciting industry - aerial photography. In business, I believe that it's important to know about the person with whom you are dealing so here's a brief history on Skycam. |
ABOUT SKYCAM
Roger in a Chipmunk at Bankstown Airport in 1964, his first aerial
of Pennant Hills in 1964 and again 44 years later in 2008
As an engineering and survey draftsman Roger was asked by project managers to apply his knowledge of aviation, photography and mapping to provide an aerial photography service to the engineering and architectural industries. During the 12 years of using the model plane system, he also built large models for low level movie footage for special effects studios. |
The
prototype in 1985 and launching the working model on the F3 freeway job in 1995.
Final
construction and fitting
of a 35mm cine movie camera in the FX studio and preparation of the
44cc plane on location for a simulator ride movie in 1990.
Because of it's unusual nature, Skycam has been featured on national television programs over the years:
A quantum leap was made in 1996 when the model plane system was retired in favour of full-sized aircraft with medium format cameras because of the rising demand and the use of the new "information super-highway" that was to become the Internet. This web site was loaded up to the Internet in July 1996 to showcase some stock images on Skycam's new "cyberspace photo gallery" when dial-up was king and no-one had ever heard of Spam. Roger was interviewed by the Sydney Morning Herald about his new web site back in 1997. Today, Skycam is a family business owning it's own Cessna 172 aeroplane which is hangared at Bankstown Airport in NSW but work takes them to many interesting places around Australia. |

Skycam uses the latest 23MP professional digital camera systems and lenses allowing quick turn-arounds and low cost solutions for it's 500+ clients from Federal, State and Local Government departments, construction giants to commercial banks, investors, developers, real estate agents to wetland experts, farmers and even private home owners. Skycam also has a vast network of fellow aerial photographers from around the world so if you are looking for a Skyline of San Francisco, New York, Paris, London, Helsinki Moscow, Toronto, Auckland, or Singapore, chances are we have an associate there. Skycam visits associates at aviation and photography conferences in other parts of the world to swap ideas on new techniques and technologies, like mountain flying for these views of Mt St Helens and Mt Hood in Washington state with colleague Rusty Harrison of Harrison Aerial of Vancouver WA. We strive to bring you the best imagery at the best price in a timely manner with a full guarantee on quality. As our economy tightens, we are also aware of other operators undercutting our prices to win jobs. We understand that this will happen but please realise that you often get what you pay for, an inferior product with little backup service. Thanks for visiting, The Skycam Family. |
