VERTICAL AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

Vertical aerial photography is a plan view looking straight down from our aircraft like this
Skycam's vertical imaging system

Our aircraft is fitted with a vertically mounted camera system to capture high resolution digital imagery.

We shoot custom vertical imagery when current imagery is preferred over often outdated stock imagery.

Our custom verticals are supplied on disk as JPG files in both high resolution for fine printing and low resolution for email.

A pixel is the smallest element of a digital image and controls the resolution and file size of an image.

Our standard vertical imagery can also be geo-referenced to a known control image for increased accuracy.

Geo-referencing is a process whereby each pixel is given a coordinate related to a map projection and datum.

Our geo-referenced files are normally supplied as ECW and KMZ digital files but many others are available.

Rectifying allows measurements to be made directly from the image using CAD or photogrammetry software.

Geo-referenced imagery is a valuable GIS tool for the construction, engineering and mining industries.

Here's an example of pixel comparison to help you understand the principles we've mentioned . . .
Image comparison between old stock and today's current image.

Geo-referencing uses selected control points to correct and allocate coordinates to every pixel in the image to a control.
Ortho-rectifying imagery with ground control points.

Here's a Skycam vertical image that has been geo-referenced and overlaid to an older stock image.
Today's image overlayed with old stock imagery.

You can measure a distance like this directly from our high resolution digital image using CAD software . . .
Measure length directly from the image.

. . . and you can also measure areas easily like this.
